Kurokami buried shrine gate

画像7.png

This is probably famous. It is inconvenient and time-consuming because it is necessary to make a round trip around Sakurajima to stop here, and there are few buses, so you must use a car. However, I think this is worth visiting.

The torii gate of the Haragosha Shrine here was buried by volcanic ash from the Taisho Great Eruption. Originally, it was about 3 meters high, but 2 meters was buried and only about 1 meter is visible today. This shows the severity of the eruption. When the eruption calmed down and the residents returned, there was talk of digging up that. I know that feeling, because it is a gate of a shrine dedicated to an important god. However, the mayor of Higashi Sakurajima Village at the time decided to leave it as it was to pass on this disaster to future generations.

Next is Kurokami Junior High School. This school was closed during 2020, but there is only one student enrolled in 2021. The students here have been cleaning the area around the buried torii gate every morning for some time.

This is the turnaround point. There is only half a lap left!
