Akamizu Observation Square, Taisho Lava

Around the bus stop of Satsuma Akamizu (Akamizu-Fumoto)《薩摩赤水 (赤水麓)》, ceramics are being made. Cooking plates and Satsuma-Yaki ceramics are made by processing lava and volcanic ash from Sakurajima. Beyond that, there is a cemetery, but unlike most, the tombs in Sakurajima are roofed. This is to prevent them from being contaminated by volcanic ash.
The area before the three-way intersection at Sakurajima-Akamizu-cho is ascent, so you can see that the area before the three-way intersection is the original ground and the area beyond is on the Taisho Lava. Going left at the three-way junction, you will find the Akamizu Observation Square and the Karasujima Observation.
Akamizu Observation Square is where Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi, who is a famous Japanese singer born in Kagoshima, held an all-night live concert in 2004. It attracted 70,000 visitors, and the Sakurajima Ferry operated as a shuttle throughout the day and night.
