Sakurajima-Shirahama-cho

Going up from this area, there is a shrine called Ontake Ryuo Gongen Shrine. It became famous recently. You have to climb up a narrow mountain path to get to the top of the shrine.
In this area, there are Cafe Shirahama and Shirahama Onsen Center hot springs. This area developed as a new town, and the population which reached its peak in the 1950s is also rapidly decreasing now. The building of Ohou Elementary School is so large because it was built in the days when there were many children.
At the Higashi Shirahama《東白浜》 bus stop, the bus terminal in the northern part of Sakurajima, the city buses are divided into different lines. The bus line is No. 60 Line up to here, and No. 70 Line from here onward. From this bus stop, the number of bus services becomes very few and the size of bus vehicles is also smaller. The reason why city buses are running in Sakurajima, though it isn’t running even in the urban area in Kagoshima City, is that the city took over the former Sakurajima town buses. Until a few years ago, the design of the buses was the same as that of the former town buses, but due to aging, the old design buses have been replaced by new ones. Charter and tour buses from when Sakurajima was “Sakurajima Town” continue to run in the urban area in Kagoshima City.
This is the former Sakurajima Town area so far.
